Now do it in Power BI Desktop
Getting started: Power BI Desktop exercise
Load the practice data into your own Power BI Desktop and read it the way the lessons taught you. You practised this in the browser; now do it in your own copy of Power BI Desktop (free from Microsoft), on the same data, and check your numbers below.
1. Get the data
In Power BI Desktop: Home → Get data → Text/CSV, pick each file, then Load. Check that numbers came in as numbers and dates as dates (Table view, column header icons).
2. The tasks
1. Count the rows
Load the CSV, open Table view and read how many rows the financials table has. Then confirm it with a measure.
2. Total sales on a card
Add a Card that shows the sum of Sales.
3. Units sold
Add a second card with the total Units Sold.
3. Check your numbers
Try every task first. Then open each answer: the numbers below come from the same data, so yours should match exactly.
1. Count the rows
Rows = COUNTROWS(financials)Result: 700
2. Total sales on a card
Total Sales = SUM(financials[Sales])- Report view → Card visual → drag Sales into Fields.
Result: 118,726,350.26
3. Units sold
Total Units = SUM(financials[Units Sold])Result: 1,125,806
